Emily is a Master of Research Student with the Australian Lymphoedema Education, Research and Treatment Centre (ALERT)- Macquarie University.

Emily holds a Masters of Occupational Therapy (OT) currently working at QLD Health Gold Coast University Hospital across lymphoedema, vascular and oncology outpatient services. Emily has returned to the public sector after running her private practice Swell Therapies across South East Queensland for several years.

Prior to completing her studies as an OT, Emily has worked as an Exercise Physiologist in the disability sector, specifically spinal cord injury rehab. Fast forward 12 years- As a lymphoedema therapist, Emily began seeing former neurological clients presenting with chronic oedema. Searching for guidance on safe oedema management practice for neurological clients, Emily found there was minimal literary evidence available. This led Emily to enrolling in the Macquarie University MRes with ALERT and the project Exploring the lived experience of peripheral oedema in people living with acquired neurological conditions affecting the central nervous system. A cross-sectional survey.

Emily is recruiting now and seeking participants living in Australia with Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease and/or post stroke to complete an online survey. The survey will remain open until end of October 2026 and the team welcomes any assistance in recruiting participants to complete the survey. By gathering the lived experience, Emily hopes to demonstrate potential trends of oedema within neurological populations helping advocate the need for further research in this field.

Outside of life as a lymphoedema therapist, Emily loves crafting and spending time with her family and rescue Bull Arab dog – Saige. Growing up in country NSW, Emily likes to get to know her community and loves know the background story of people.
