59th ISCoS Annual Scientific Meeting
The 59th ISCoS Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) successfully went virtual last week. Originally to be held in Yokohama, Japan this month, due to Covid-19 it was shifted to go virtually.
The organising committee and conveners must be commended on the success of the format. Given the not so favourable UK time zone (unless you’re a fan of the Tour de France!), Australia and New Zealand were well presented, with 22 posters and oral presentations. Pre recorded sessions helped, however presenters still made themselves available online to respond to Q&A sections of the program.
Special congratulations to…
- Dr Mohit Arora from Sydney for winning the Post Doctoral Fellow Poster Award for – Health Maintenance Tool for people with spinal cord injury – A tool for consumers from consumers,
- Professor David Berlowitz from Melbourne for presenting the inaugural Anthony DiMarco Lecture on respiratory health in SCI, and
- Associate Professor Ruth Marshall from Adelaide, who after her one year tenure as ISCoS President Elect, now steps in as President.
The virtual ASM brought together 618 global experts from 58 countries in the field of Spinal Cord Injury (122 from Australia and New Zealand). 89% of the delegates were online during the live dates.
The event has given us a taste to the benefits of an online format, however people still missed the face-to-face interaction. Vancouver, Canada has been announced as hosts for the 60th ISCoS ASM. Keep an eye out for details here.
