The Spinal Research Institute’s SCI Research Grant
19th March 2026
ANZSCoS is excited to promote The Spinal Research Institute (SRI)’s Marigold Southey & Freemasons Foundation Victoria SCI Research Grant.
“The grant is being offered to support outstanding early to mid-career investigators undertaking research within the spinal cord injury (SCI) field at a Victorian-based university, hospital or research institute.
This offering furthers the SRI’s commitment to support emerging researchers to build SCI research capability and capacity, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of people with SCI.
The grant is named in honour of SRI Patron, Marigold Southey, to recognise her life’s work in community service, volunteerism and philanthropy, and a commitment to helping make life better for others.
The grant is valued at up to $60,000 and will be available over one to two years to support Victorian-based early to mid-career researchers to lead high-impact research in spinal cord injury to improve treatment and care outcomes. The objectives of the grant are to:
- provide flexibility to pursue important new research directions and/or establish new collaborations, as needed,
- foster innovative and creative research in spinal cord injury,
- support research activities spanning the research continuum from discovery to implementation,
- enable research translation, including progression from clinical trials to adoption in policy and clinical practice, and
- help strengthen research track records of early and mid-career researchers, and to support them in building an independent career within the area of spinal cord injury.
In addition to funding support, the SRI may at its discretion provide additional non-financial support, such as advice and assistance with consumer engagement, as determined through consultation with the grant recipient.
Applications are open 2 March – 3 May 2026.
The SRI supports diversity in culture, nationality, gender, and ability. Researchers with lived experience of SCI are encouraged to apply.”
